  • Procurement Has the Tools. What Is It Still Waiting For?
  • Procurement Has the Tools. What Is It Still Waiting For?

For decades, procurement has been asking for a seat at the table. For earlier involvement. For strategic recognition.

Last week at the Politecnico di Milano Graduate School of Management, I attended the presentation of Procurement Management, 25 years of the School's research on procurement condensed into a single book. And one question stayed with me: at this point, what are we still waiting for?

Not long ago, the dialogue between academia and business practice on procurement barely existed. Today it does. We have universities researching and codifying procurement as a strategic discipline. We have AI. We have the tools.

    The excuses are running out.

If procurement still has an identity and recognition problem, the uncomfortable question is: whose responsibility is it?

I also wonder whether any other business function carries such a persistent identity problem. In sales, I don't see the same debate.

Thank you, Federico Caniato,Stefano Ronchi and Antonella Moretto for a work that fills a real gap.
